Shipper Tools
"General Average" claims can hit any shipper of ocean freight. Since the time of the Phoenicians, those whose cargo survived a rough trip have pooled together to reimburse those whose cargo did not. If a ship captain has 1,000 containers on his vessel, and in a storm, must jettison 100 containers so that the remaining 900 containers make the trip, then those whose containers survive pitch in to pay for the loss of the shippers whose cargo was sacrificed for the good of the whole. Ocean marine cargo costs only a fraction of a percent of the total value of the goods. While most goods make it to their destination unscathed and in good working order, some do not. Are you willing to risk losing your goods for the cost of a few pennies? None of us likes to think about insurance, nor losing our freight. Isn't a small fraction of a percent of the value of your goods worth the peace of mind you have in knowing you are protected? Cargo insurance - those pennies that pay for peace of mind. |
